Crisp Lettuce
Don’t throw out lettuce that has gotten a bit limp and soggy.  With a little help from lemon juice, you will be able to use it in a salad instead! Add the juice of half a lemon to a bowl of very cold water. Put the lettuce in the water and refrigerate for one hour. Dry the lettuce a bit with a paper towel and you are good to go!

Freshen the Fridge
Remove refrigerator odors with ease. Dab lemon juice on a cotton ball or sponge and leave it in the fridge for several hours to absorb odors. Make sure to toss out any malodorous items that might be causing the bad smell and improve the effectiveness of the lemon juice.

High Blood Pressure
Squeeze half a lemon into a glass of water and drink three to four times per day to lower your blood pressure. For best results, you can squeeze the lemon into a warm cup of water and drink it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Drinking the lemon water can reduce the effect of nausea and dizziness.

Prevent Cauliflower From Turning Brown
Cauliflower tends to turn brown with even the slightest cooking. You can make sure the white vegetables stay white by squeezing a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice on them before heating.

Respiratory Problems
Lemon water can reduce phlegm; and can also help you breathe properly and aids a person suffering with asthma. The vitamin C in lemons can also help with long-term respiratory disorders

Treating Arthritis and Rheumatism
Lemon is a diuretic, meaning it assists in the production of urine and helps to reduce inflammation by flushing out toxins and bacteria while also giving you relief from arthritis and rheumatism.

Fruit and Vegetable Wash
You never know what kind of pesticides or dirt may be lurking on the skin of your favorite fruits and vegetables. Slice your lemon and squeeze out 1 Tablespoon of lemon juice into spray bottle. The lemon juice is a natural disinfectant and will leave your fruits and vegetables smelling nice too.

Keep Guacamole Green
You’ve been making guacamole all day long for the big party, and you don’t want it to turn brown on top before the guests arrive. The solution: Sprinkle a liberal amount of fresh lemon juice over it and it will stay fresh and green. The flavor of the lemon juice is a natural complement to the avocados in the guacamole. Reduce Asthma Symptoms
In addition to a general detoxifying diet, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice before each meal, and before retiring can reduce asthma symptoms.

Crumbed baked fish

Made this lovely crumbed baked hake for hubby and he loved it so much i just had to share the recipe with all of you! Give it a go and tell me what you think.


Ingredients

4 pieces hake fish
Kellogg corn flakes bread crumbs
2 eggs
125 ml oat flour
salt and pepper
15 ml olive oil or coconut oil


Method

  1. in a plate add the flour and mix with salt and pepper
  2. in another medium bowl add the 2 eggs and whisk lightly
  3. in a large bowl add the Kellogg corn flakes bread crumbs
  4. start by dipping the fish into the flour, then the eggs, then cover in bread crumbs
  5. repeat step 4 until all the fish is covered in bread crumbs
  6. rub an oven pan in olive oil and lay the fish in the pan
  7. bake until crispy

serve with lemon wedges,  fat free cottage cheese and some mixed veggies.

Juicy Stuffed Chicken breast

Out of healthy ideas for dinner? Try this Yummy juicy stuffed chicken breast recipe . so quick and easy and the family will love it too!!!


Ingredients

4 chicken breasts
2 cups spinach (fresh or frozen)
1/2 an onion chopped
1 teaspoon garlic
125 ml mushrooms chopped
100 ml fat free cottage cheese
5 ml parsley
5 ml Origanum
5 ml lemon and herb spice
30 ml tomato paste
pinch salt and pepper
20 ml olive oil/ coconut oil


Method

  1.  in a pan (on medium heat) add the olive oil and fry onions until soft
  2. add garlic, mushrooms, parsley, origanum , salt and pepper, fry until mushrooms are cooked
  3. add the cooked spinach and cottage cheese, mix well and take off heat
  4. turn oven on 180°C
  5. cut the chicken breasts in half
  6. scoop some of the spinach stuffing into the chicken and secure with a toothpick
  7. mix the 5 ml oil , tomato paste and lemon and herb spice
  8. cover the stuffed chicken breast in the tomato paste combo
  9. lay the chicken breast in a oven pan
  10. cover the pan in foil
  11. put in oven for 25 min or until cooked
  12. OPTIONAL _ add some cheese on top and melt.
  13. Serve with a fresh salad

please look for 99% tomato paste, not tomato sauce as it contains loads of sugar.

Sugar free chocolate chip cookies

Craving for some chocolate? well then this is the recipe for you, have your chocolate and keep the abs!

Ingredients

2 ripe bananas
1 cup oats
2 tbsp Cacao powder
1 tablespoon dark choc chips
2 tablespoon Stevia or any sweetener

Method

in a bowl mash the bananas , add rest of the ingredients and mix
Scoop dough onto baking tray in small balls.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes

Morning Cuppa

Start your morning with my awesome morning cuppa.    

Boost your  metabolism, detox your liver, clear acne and just feel fresh.

in a mug mix together, half a lemons juice, 1 teaspoon raw honey, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon crushed or cut ginger. add hot water and enjoy first thing in the morning.


This combo gets the digestive system to work and removes all the nasties from your body. This is also great for the winter as lemon contains lots of vitamin C , honey and ginger act as anti-inflammatory and a natural antibiotic.

So if you feel a cold coming on just sip on this lovely drink.

Infused Water

 

Strawberry and Mint Infused water

Ingredients

5 strawberries
1 cup mint leaves
water
jug
lots of ice

Method

Cut up strawberries and mint leaves
Let steep in water for at least 2 hours
Serve with lots of ice.

*Feel free to use any fruit you like as a substitute
*Peach, cinnamon and rooibos tea makes a great refreshing iced tea
*pineapple and coconut goes well together

Spaghetti and Meatballs

Been craving for some pasta? then this low carb , healthy and delicious spaghetti and meatball recipe is for you!


Ingredients:

250 g zucchini spaghetti*
250 g lean mince*
15 ml oats cooked
salt and pepper
30 ml tomato paste
30 ml chopped basil
30 ml chopped parsley
4 small onions chopped in big chunks
60 ml vegetable stock
10 ml Corn starch


Method:

Heat up oven to 180°C 

To make the meatballs mix the mince, oats, salt and pepper together, form small balls pressing the mince in your hand. Should make about 6 small balls.
To make the tomato marinara sauce mix together tomato paste,chopped basil,parsley, vegetable stock and corn starch.
In a oven proof casserole dish, place in the meatballs and chopped onions, pour over tomato base sauce and cook in the oven on 180°C for about 25 minutes or until cooked.
To make the spaghetti, place the zucchini pasta in a frying pan with some water for 10 minutes or until tender.

Toss the pasta in a serving dish and pour the meatballs and sauce on top.
Serve with fresh tomatoes and basil on top.

Serves 3


Notes

*you can use chicken mice instead of beef mince.
*if you do not have zucchini pasta you can make your own by using a vegetable peeler. gives it a fettuccine effect.

Gluten free banana bread

This recipe is one of my favorites, gluten free and sugar free but yet it is still so moist and sweet. My husband did not even notice it was sugar free. it’s so delicious!

For this recipe you will need:

80g Oat Flour*
3 ripe bananas (medium)
30 ml peanut butter (sugar free)*
2 large eggs
30 ml stevia sweetener*
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/ tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract


Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180ºC, and lightly grease a 23cm x 13cm bread pan or line with a parchment paper. set aside
  2. in a bowl, mash banana with a fork until smooth. then add the peanut butter, eggs and vanilla extract.
  3. to the banana mixture , add the flour, sweetener, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.
  4. mix well. pour batter into bread pan.
  5. cut 1 small banana horizontally and put it on-top off the batter mixture .
  6. place in the oven and bake for 45 min or until the top is golden brown.

Notes

*you can make your own oat flour by grinding normal oats in a blender.
*feel free to substitute the peanut butter with any nut/seed butter.
*you can use any sweetener you like but I opt for stevia as it is more natural.

Tuna Salad with a Coconut dressing

To make this recipe – you will need:

Salad leaves
Cucumber Chopped
Carrot and Beetroot grated
Peppers julienne (Any colour you like)
Chopped onions
Tuna in brine (1 Can)


For the Coconut dressing – you will need:

30 ml coconut cream
5 ml Lemon juice
5 ml dill
5 ml parsley


Method:

Mix all the salad ingredient into a bowl
For the dressing, mix all the dressing ingredients in a small bowl.
Pour the dressing over the salad.
